West Virginia Mountaineers Gain Tight End, Lose Top Running Back

The West Virginia Mountaineers gained their first tight end commit for the class of 2027, Luke Linder, but lost top running back Khamoni Williams to Auburn.

What happened on the recruiting trail?

The Mountaineers had a mixed Father's Day, with Linder announcing his commitment and Williams flipping to Auburn after just nine days with WVU.

Linder, a 3-star tight end from Mableton, Georgia, chose WVU over multiple Georgia schools and Big 12 foe Cincinnati.

Why it matters for West Virginia Mountaineers

Williams was a top-three recruit for WVU's 2027 class and the highest-rated running back, making his loss a significant blow.

The Mountaineers did add another offensive lineman, 3-star Ryan Moore, who chose WVU over local schools like Georgia Tech and Pitt.

Moore is the third offensive lineman to commit to WVU's 2027 class and the seventh Georgia prospect to join the Mountaineers.

What comes next for the Mountaineers?

The Mountaineers now have 22 commits for the class of 2027, with Linder and Moore joining the fold.

WVU trails Pitt by two spots and is still third in the Big 12 behind Texas Tech and Kansas State.

The Mountaineers are just outside the top 30 of classes and are tied with the 15th-most players committed in college football.

Linder is rated as the No. 172 player in Georgia and the 78th-ranked tight end in the class, with a Perfect Game score of 8.5/10.

He had 17 catches for 247 yards and a touchdown in his junior season at Whitefield Academy.

Moore is rated as the 135th player in the state and the 82nd-rated interior offensive lineman.

The Mountaineers will look to build on their recruiting momentum in the coming weeks.
